Washington, DC – Mi Casa, Inc. announces the groundbreaking of the 10Q Apartments, a new mixed-income, energy-efficient housing development located at Q Street NW and Florida Avenue NW. The project represents a continued investment in equitable, community-centered development and reflects Mi Casa’s commitment to expanding affordable housing opportunities for District residents.
Awarded the Q and Florida lot by the DC Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) in 2018, Mi Casa has worked closely with community partners, including ANC 5E02, the Bates Area Civic Association, and the Hanover Area Civic Association, through multiple program iterations to bring this long-envisioned affordable housing project to life.
Once completed, the 10Q Apartments will provide 29 apartment homes, including a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom units serving residents earning 30%, 50%, and 80% of the area median income (AMI). Designed to reflect the townhouse scale and character of Q Street, the building will feature a brick façade with bay windows and balconies, contributing to the architectural fabric of the surrounding neighborhood.
The development will incorporate rooftop solar and enhanced energy efficiency measures, advancing sustainability goals while helping to reduce long-term costs for residents. Amenities will include green space, a rooftop patio, and dedicated community programming space to support resident engagement and intergenerational living.
Development financing for the project is provided by DHCD and PNC Bank, with predevelopment funding from the DC Green Bank, LISC, and DHCD.
“Providing new, nearing net-zero housing the majority of which is two and three bedrooms and affordable to very and extremely low income households is especially important in this moment when the need is so great,” said Elin Zurbrigg. ”This outcome is only possible when public investment, community input, and community-based developers come together to create it.”
Construction is expected to be completed in the summer of 2027.
