Mi Casa began working with the Peabody Tenants Association, owners of a 15-unit building in Brightwood, in February 2006. Most tenants are long-term residents of the neighborhood and the building, and committed to maintaining the building as affordable housing. Mi Casa assisted the Association consider several development options, helping them to reach the decision to develop the building as a limited-equity cooperative and to purchase the building in March 2007. Mi Casa continues to work with the co-op in selecting an architect, completing plans and specifications, securing permits and construction financing, and carrying out the building renovation.
